Remembering:
According to Ormrod (2011), what are the six ways to foster creativity and why is creativity important?
Analyzing:
Outline ways in which you can accommodate for students with special needs using the categories listed in the table on page 280.
1). The six ways to foster creativity are as follows:
ReplyDelete*Demonstrate to your students the value of creative behaviors and thoughts; acknowledge unique and creative responses from students.
*Help students to focus their attention on internal rewards, rather than external ones.
*Encourage subject area mastery; creativity is more likely when students already have mastery of a topic.
*Ask students higher-level, thought-provoking questions.
*Promote risk-taking by providing students with the freedom and security they need.
*Provide time for creativity to occur.
Creativity is important as it is a form of transfer; you are able to apply already learned skills and knowledge to new situations. Creativity is often involved, along with problem solving, in many complex tasks. Using creativity, you are able to take a single idea and expand it in a variety of ways (divergent thinking).
I would consider this first question to be remembering as I am asked to recall information that I have already read in the chapter.
2). Students with specific cognitive or academic difficulties- I could begin by scaffolding (providing support for) students who are having trouble with the process of transfer. I could do this by asking questions and prompting students to help them apply already acquired information in new situations.
Students with social or behavioral problems- I could model or directly teach social problem-solving skills, such as goal setting, self-motivation, self-monitoring, and self-evaluation, to my students.
Students with general delays in cognitive and social functioning-I could help guide my students through simple problems and work together to brainstorm ideas for problem solving; by working together and coming up with ideas, I will be helping to foster these students' creativity and critical thinking skills.
Students with physical or sensory challenges- I could model higher-level thinking processes for my students who have had limited experiences with tasks that require this skill.
Students with advanced cognitive development- I will be encouraging and accepting of these students' thinking processes; for example, unexpected responses and critical ideas and opinions. I want these students to feel free to demonstrate their critical thinking and express it in the classroom setting.
This question is an example of analyzing as I was outlining different ways I would accommodate for different students; I was also integrating previous knowledge I had about accommodating for students into my ideas for this question.
